Violet Moore Schumacher

October 31, 1921 — September 3, 2023

After a long life, Violet died at the age of 101. At the time of her death, she was living in the Memory Care Unit at Amira Choice Living facility in Sarasota, FL. She was also under the hospice care of Continuum Care Health, and private care of Caregivers United. We thank each of these organizations for their kindness during this difficult time.

Violet, an only child, was born in Louisville, KY October 31, 1921 to Vernon and Olive (Watkins) Price. One of our favorite stories was that when they were children, she and her life-long best friend, whom we called Aunt Jane, used to crawl under the fence at Churchill Downs to sneak into the Kentucky Derby! As a girl and a young woman, Violet expressed her creativity mainly through music. She was an accomplished piano and violin player.

On Nov. 20, 1941 Violet married Melvin Moore, Jr., also from Louisville, KY. They had known each other from high school. He was serving in the US Army and on his way to Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. After the war, they settled in Louisville and established their family with Valeen, Peggy, Charlotte, and Vernon. In 1950 they moved to Bradenton, FL and created a business, Suncoast Beef and Provision, in Palmetto. Violet was a homemaker, active in the Garden Club, PTA, Girl Scouts, The Planetarium and Museum, and Trinity Methodist Church. Her focus was on the lives and activities of her family, and her creativity was expressed in her home through these organizations. She was a wonderful seamstress, knitter, crafter, always working on one project or another

When the children got older and began to leave home, Violet and Melvin started traveling throughout the world. First, they traveled with the Conquistador organization, and then on their own. Violet loved to travel, always looking forward to the next adventure.

Melvin died in 1992. Violet and Frank Schumacher had known each other for many years through their mutual organizations, and in 1998 they found new partnership and companionship together. They were married in 1999. They also traveled throughout the world, doing their best to visit everywhere that Violet had not already been. After Frank died in 2022, Violet moved to Sarasota.

Violet is survived by her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

She lived over a century. It was a good, full life.
