Susan Marie Boyce-Tarkowski

October 25, 1958 — March 3, 2021

Susan Marie Boyce Tarkowski, age 62, passed away suddenly in her Florida home on March 3, 2021. She was born on October 25, 1958 in Flint, Michigan to Gerald and Janet Boyce. She married Steven Tarkowski on April 15, 1998, who survives her.  Susan had a servant’s heart and dedicated her life to serving others.  In 1985, she paved the way for women by becoming one of the first women to complete firefighter training and serve on the Flint Fire Department at Station 1.  After 21 years of service, she retired in 2006 as a Captain.

After retirement, she continued to serve her community through supporting countless charities and volunteering. The Humane Society of Genesee County and My Brother’s Keeper organizations were both very close to her heart, and she leaves behind several dear friends in those charities. In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, softball, hunting, masonry work, music, and spending time with her many beloved friends and family members.

She is survived by: her two brothers Dr. Jeff (Becky) Boyce, and Rev. Mark (Brenda) Boyce; her nephew Brad (Elizabeth) Boyce and their children: Eleanor, Amelia, and Edith; her nieces Kayla (Scotty) Rhode and their children: William, Kennedy, and Holland; Kelsey (Michael) Henry; and Brianna Boyce.  She also leaves behind many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Janet Boyce and her grandparents: Kermit and Elsie Boyce, AJ and Evangeline Cox, and Margaret Boyce.  She will be lovingly remembered by everyone.

Please join us for a celebration of life service followed by a luncheon on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at noon at Fireman’s Park in Clio, Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to one of her beloved charities:
