Russell was peacefully ushered to Heaven to be with the Lord on May 18, 2023 at the young age of 82. He was the dearly loved and loving husband of MaryAnn Johansen, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage and raised a family that grew from four children to include ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Russell was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Harold and Nadine Johansen and was raised in Milford, CT. He began his professional life as General Manager for the family business, Milford Package Delivery, which later became Cross Country Coach. Realizing a talent for carpentry he moved on to became a General Contractor for many years. He relocated to Florida in 1997 and enjoyed life there as a Condominium Association Manager. As an aspiring writer at heart, he was able to hone his craft after retiring; creating two “yet unpublished” works of art (novels) as well as poetry and short stories that he shared on social media and published on his website.
To reflect on his life stories with so little space and time to share them seems impossible...Son, Brother, Student, Boy Scout Leader, General Manager, Husband, Father, Uncle, General 22Contractor, Grandfather, Condominium Association Manager, Great-Uncle, Great-Grandfather, Boss, Teacher, Writer, Friend, Mr. Fix It, Jack of All Trades.
A great man that has touched the lives of so many; humble, generous, hardworking, faithful, and to some even a hero. His wonderful character and love are reflected in and carried forward by his family “his treasure” the one thing that meant everything to him.
In addition to his wife MaryAnn, Russell is survived by his children Paul Johansen and wife Joanne, Audrey Trichter, David Johansen and wife Rebecca (Becky), Michael Johansen and wife Kimberly (Kim); his grandchildren Christopher, Erik, Steven, Alex, James, Rae, Kenneth, Jacob, and Emmalie; his great-grandchildren, Madison, Hannah and Samuel; six siblings; and a host of others he adopted into the family by way of his heart because they were so very special and
dear to him. Passed on before him are three of his siblings and his granddaughter Alyssa. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of times spent together with him, the lessons he taught, the life stories he told, his odd sense of humor, his wisdom and his writings. He has always been and will forevermore be “their” treasure.
A private gathering was held by his family.
In honor of Russell, please consider sharing a special memory or heartfelt note here.
