Born on July 19, 1937 to Harry and Irma Schappacher, Roy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church.
Roy will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Jean, of 67 years; children Debbie Johnson (Roger), Rick Schappacher (Janie), Kelly Schappacher (Sharon), Mary LaBell (Dave), David Schappacher (JoAnna), Ron Schappacher (Molly), Tom Schappacher (Shelly), Mark Schappacher (Stephanie), Stacie Wasson (Matt), Tara Esteves (Jeremy); 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, siblings Ruth Hennessey and Robert Schappacher (Debbie).
Having taken his large family on numerous road trips to Florida crammed into a boys locker room on wheels, Roy decided in 1979 it would be easier to just move to Florida. The sounds and smell inside that car, as well as too many frozen fingers working as a brick mason, made the decision an easy one. Roy and 6 of his 8 siblings successfully colonized Bradenton with over 100 relatives and there doesn’t seem to be any stopping them now. It’s impossible not to run into one of his relatives at a pub, store, restaurant, ball field, church, or school all with Roy’s telltale smile, friendly hello, and clever remarks.
Roy continued working as a mason until 1999 and retired as a mail and office clerk in 2005.
He is preceded in death by his loving daughter Annette; parents Harry and Irma and siblings Ron, Ralph, Ray, Russ, Rodger and Rich.
Pallbearers will be his six sons.
