'Bob” Benjamin, age 94, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was called home to heaven on August 30, 2018.
He was born on October 23, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Albert A. and Francis Wright Benjamin. He graduated from Shortridge High School and earned his B.S. degree in journalism from Butler University in Indianapolis, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Bob was a member of Brookside Masonic Lodge-Knights Templar commandery in Indianapolis and the Masonic Sahib Temple Shrine in Sarasota, Florida.
Bob was a former commissioner of the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) and former manager of the Mutual Insurance Companies Association of Indiana. After retiring as a Vice President of Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Bob and his wife Alice moved to Bradenton, Florida. Bob has more recently served as a member of the Manatee County Republican Executive Committee, Manatee County Crime Stoppers, and as a former elder of Faith Presbyterian Church.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Alice L. Benjamin, his son, Bruce E. Benjamin (wife, Ann) of Bradenton, daughter Robin A. Benjamin Hastings (husband-Dan) of Tallahassee, granddaughters Stacey Benjamin Zimmerman of Lititz, PA, Natalie Benjamin of Bradenton, Laura Hastings of Tallahassee, David Hastings, and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6th, 2018 from 11:30 am-1:30pm with services commencing at 1:30 pm at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave., Bradenton, Florida
