Richard Reynolds, 77, of Bradenton, died peacefully on May 15, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A native of Portland, OR, he moved to Florida after graduating from Oregon State University. After working for several years in telecommunications, he became a homebuilder in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. He was very active in the local, state, and national associations of home builders and received many awards for his service, including Florida Builder of the Year in 2009.
After Hurricane Charlie, he was part of a FEMA team that assessed damages to homes. As a result of this experience, he spent his remaining working years with the Institute of Building and Home Safety exploring ways to make houses more hurricane resistant. After retiring, he mentored students at Bayshore High and Haile Middle Schools who were competing in structural engineering events as part of their Technology Student Associations. Richard's generous gift of time and support enabled two of his students to become first place winners at the national competition twice.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his daughter Amy (Charles) Kwalwasser, son David Marsh, daughter Jan King, sisters Anne Williams and Susan Reynolds, one grandson, four granddaughters and one great grandson.
A Celebration of Richard's life will be held Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 3-5 P.M. at the Palma Sola Botanical Park, Bradenton.
Donations in his honor may be made to Hope Lodge, Gainesville, FL, or to TideWell Hospice, Bradenton.
