Richard A. Schappacher, 75, Bradenton, passed away August 7, 2015.
Richard was born March 24, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Harry and Irma (Keopke) Schappacher. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and moved to Bradenton in 1969 coming from Cincinnati.
He owned his own trucking business. He was an avid boater, tinker and collector to name a few. He was also known in the area as the Mayor of the 9th Street E and 29th Avenue East Corner, and his home was open to all and was not a stranger to anyone that stopped by. Richard was also a member of the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Sarasota.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Rose Schappacher in May of 2005, and is survived by his two sons; Jeff (Rebecca) Schappacher, Scott (Michelle) Schappacher both of Bradenton, three daughters; Sherry (Jeff) Ball, Angie (Paul) Seneck both of Myakka City, Connie (Randy) Tosch of Bradenton, three brothers; Ralph (Sunni) Schappacher of St. Petersburg, Robert (Debbie) Schappacher of Cincinnati, OH, Roy (Jean) Schappacher of Bradenton, one sister, Ruth Hennessey of Ellenton, 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, companion, Phyllis Krause of Bradenton and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 833 Magellan Drive, Sarasota.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to either the American Lung Association or TideWell Hospice in his memory.
