Myrtle Orissa Amory Overby

Myrtle Orissa Amory Overby, 94 of Bradenton, passed away June 20, 2016 at the Nursing Center at Freedom Village in Bradenton.

Myrtle was born on June 13, 1922 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Joseph W. Sr. and Leila Orissa (Smith) Amory. She was reared in the Norfolk area. Following her high school and secretarial school graduation she went to work at Southern Materials in Norfolk, from which she retired from as the Executive Secretary to the C.E.O. of the company after many loyal years of service. While living in Norfolk she was a member of the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church and numerous civic organizations.

In 1987 she moved to Bradenton, Florida. Locally she attended the Palmetto Presbyterian Church in Palmetto where her brother Rev. Joseph W. Amory, Jr. was senior pastor. Then after his retirement she attended the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton. She continued her numerous civic memberships locally thru many clubs and organizations.

She was predeceased by her loving husband George on May 24, 1994 and is survived by her caring brother, Rev. Joseph W. Amory, Jr. of Bradenton, three precious nieces, Cathy, Candy and Mary Pat, and many extended family members and friends.

A private family celebration of Myrtle’s life will be held at a later date. She will be buried next to her husband George in Norfolk, Virginia in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date and time.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either Palmetto Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church in Bradenton in her memory.
