Mildred Hart

October 31, 1925 — December 12, 2020

On the afternoon of December 12, 2020, Mildred Hart of Westminster Point Pleasant in Bradenton, Florida, died at the age of 95 in the presence of family at Tidewell Hospice House, Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

Mildred was born in 1925 in Bronx, New York, to Julius and Emma.

A dedicated homemaker in February 1945 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Bronx, New York.  They remained married for over fifty five years until Christian’s passing in 2003.

Together, Mildred and Christian raised four sons - Edward, Glen, Wayne, and Warren. The boys were the pride and joy of Mildred’s life and she was the consummate “Mama Bear” always looking out for the boys and cheering them on, regardless of their age.

As a devout Catholic, Mildred was known for an uplifting spirit, always enjoyed a good laugh, endeared herself to neighbors, and easily made friends wherever the family planted roots – this included Seaford and West Islip on Long Island, New York, as well as Lakeland, Florida.

Mildred was an avid gardener with a “green thumb” and blessed by wonderful baking and home decorating talents – always willing to share plant clippings and recipe-decorating ideas with family and friends.  Among Mildred’s inspiring favorite sayings included ‘anything’s got to be an improvement’, ‘the Good Lord has gotten us this far’, and ‘no matter where we find ourselves in life’s valleys, there’s always someone worse off’.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Christian, her second oldest son Glen, her parents Julius and Emma, and her sister, Gloria.

She is survived by her sons Edward and his spouse Gaylee Gillum of Louisville, KY, Wayne of Stuart, Florida, Warren of Southern California, as well as extended family, three grandkitties – Bellabutton, Cali-Cue, and Myra – and dear friends including Peter of Bradenton, Florida, Peggy Royals of Lakeland, Florida, Ray & Lynn Sheeler of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Jean Kubik of Dover, New Hampshire.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on January 8th, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bradenton, Florida. The interment of Mildred’s ashes will occur January 15th, 2021, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
