With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Patrick Boyd Sr., a cherished father, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on February 25, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 21, 1944, in Havre de Grace, MD, to the late William H. "Henry" and Alice "Marie" (Gallagher) Boyd. Michael spent his life in the town he loved, where he built lasting memories and meaningful connections.
Michael was a proud locomotive engineer, dedicating many years of service to Conrail and Norfolk Southern. His strong work ethic and commitment to his profession were only rivaled by his love for his family. Michael was the devoted husband to the late Alice B. Boyd. He is survived by his beloved children Deana M. Boyd, Michael P. Boyd Jr., Regina E. Soldner (Jeff) and Bethany S. Richards (John). Michael's warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by his grandkids: Steffan Boyd, Ashley Redon (Ryan), Ryland Shiloh (Michael), Jonna Bidelman, J.T. Thompson, Lacey Richards (Brian Dukes), and Logan Richards, and his great-grandkids: Ava, Corbin, Cole, Boyd, Grady, Cyrus and Jensen. He also leaves behind his brothers, William H. Boyd Jr. and James "Kevin" Boyd, who cherished their moments together.
Beyond his career, Michael found joy in many pursuits. He was an avid golfer who looked forward to his Wednesday tee time with Don, a passionate reader, and a local historian with a deep interest in ancestry research. His enthusiasm for learning and sharing knowledge enriched the lives of those around him. He enjoyed getting together regularly for fellowship with his HHS classmates. He also loved his yoga classes at the local community center. Michael's true labor of love was restoring his historic home on Union Ave with his wife Alice. For over a decade, Michael volunteered at the Susquehanna Hose Company, demonstrating his commitment to serving the community he loved. Michael was also a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church.
In honoring Michael's life, family and friends will gather for a viewing on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 11 AM until 1 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A.927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM. During this time, we will share our fondest memories, laughter, and tears as we remember the remarkable man who touched so many lives.
In loss, we find comfort in knowing that Michael lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life with passion and kindness. As we move forward, let us remember him not only in our sorrow but also in our joys, for he would want to be celebrated rather than mourned.
