Mrs. Quimby graduated from high school in Spartanburg, SC. She later graduated from Columbia College in Columbia ,SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She met her future husband while in college, and they kept 'courting' until Sumner came home on leave from World War II. They were married on November 3, 1945, while he was on a 30-day pass, awaiting an honorable discharge from the Navy. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Atlanta, GA, where Sumner completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University. While in Atlanta, Mrs. Quimby worked as a telephone switch-board operator. The couple then moved to Columbia, SC where Sumner completed a pharmaceutical degree, and took a position with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. Upon graduation from medical school, the Quimbys moved to Tampa, FL where Dr. Quimby completed his residency and internship. In 1958 they moved to Bradenton FL.

With an indomitable spirit, sharp wit, and passion for life, Mrs. Quimby was always actively engaged with family, friends, and the community. Mrs. Quimby loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and continued her life-long passion of reading and studying her Bible. She served many years in various ministries at First United Methodist Church where she was a long-time member. She served multiple positions with her Sunday School Wesley class, the United Methodist Women (Martha Circle), the Board of Trustees, and for a number of years she was the church financial secretary. She joined the PEO Chapter  EI, and although she could not attend meetings regularly in the past months, she enjoyed many visits from her PEO sisters. She was a member of the Bradenton Country Club, the Bradenton Yacht Club, the American Association of University Women, and a past president of the Entre Nous Service organization. For several years she joyfully volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

A person of great dignity, elegance and intelligence, Mrs. Quimby was very much loved, admired, and respected. She was a most loving and kind wife, daughter, sister, mother. grandmothers, and friend, and she is already sorely missed by us all. She loved her family dearly, and truly and generously invested herself in all of them, with her time and prayers.

Her hobbies included playing bridge ( a game-skill that she passed onto her grandchildren), reading, studying the Bible, traveling and being with family.

She is survived by her sister Mary (Arthur) Cummings of Spartanburg SC, her children; Hugh (Patricia) Quimby of Tampa, Becky (Rick) Offutt of Charlotte NC, Lynne (Robert) Pennock of Tallahassee, Marty (Jimmy) Jernigan of Monroe SC, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
