Luis Angel Martinez

July 9, 1937 — March 4, 2022

Luis Angel Martinez, 84, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather was called home to our Heavenly Father on March 4, 2022. He was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico on July 9, 1937. Luis was a longtime resident of Lorain, Ohio and also lived in Puerto Rico before moving to Bradenton, Florida. Luis was a sportsman all his life, playing in city league baseball during the late 1950’s, 1960’s and early 1970’s with teams like Jack Wolfe, Happy Boys and the Puerto Rican Home. He enjoyed watching baseball with his favorite teams being the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was also an avid golfer, loved dancing and listening to Spanish music. Luis worked at US Steel and an American Shipyard. He owned movie theaters and retired in Florida after being a home builder. Luis was lovingly referred to as Papi by his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he dearly loved and helped all in their upbringing. He was well known in the community throughout the past 20 years because of his devotion to attending and watching sporting events all over Florida for all his great grandchildren, especially for his volunteer coaching of Chase and Jacoby in baseball. Luis is survived by his son Luis Martinez, Jr., son Edwin Montanez-Martinez and his wife Herenia, his daughter-in-law Carol Martinez; grandchildren Angela Maasdorp and her husband Dayne Maasdorp, Latisha Martinez and her husband Frank Bell, Roxann Martinez and Nicole Martinez; great grandchildren McKenzie Maasdorp, Kayla Bell, Chase Maasdorp, Jacoby Cox, Avery Caska; great great grandchild Nala Sophia Bell all of Bradenton, Florida. He is also survived by his brothers Miguel (Papo) Martinez and his wife Angelita Martinez of Puerto Rico; Willie Martinez of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Inez Martinez; his parents Antolino Martinez and Felicita Martinez (nee Rivera).
