Lieselotte “Lelo” Antoinette Watts

Lieselotte “Lelo” Antoinette Watts, 92, of Bradenton, died peacefully and at home on January 26, 2017.

Born in Munich, Germany, on Nov. 24, 1924, she was an aspiring doctor when World War II interfered and brought her to work as an interpreter at Gen. George Patton's headquarters, where she met her first husband, Lloyd D. Chapman of Bradenton, and became a war bride.

She raised four children in Connecticut and Pennsylvania and moved to Florida in 1966. She was employed by the School Board of Manatee County from which she retired as a supervisor after 20 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bradenton and active in the Ethel Long Women’s Circle there for more than 30 years.

She was a longtime member of the Manatee Orchid Society and a noted grower whose plants won many awards. She was a cheerful and loving friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Lee Watts of Bradenton, in 2005 after 25 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, Regis Chapman (Dianne Chapman) of Richmond, Va.; Tristan Chapman (Donna Chapman) of Fort Myers; Terry Chapman of Bradenton; and Lloyd Chapman of Parrish; as well as 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either the First United Methodist Church of Bradenton, 603 11th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34205 or to the Southeastern Guide Dogs Association, 4210 77th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221 in her memory.
