Joy Shiver Houck, 89, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on March 20, 2017 at her residence.
Joy was born on December 20, 1927 in Bradenton, Florida to the late Paul and Robbie Louise (Rawls) Shiver. She grew up in Bradenton and was a lifelong resident. Joy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton, the Little Manatee Players, and the Manatee River Garden Club and was an avid reader, writer and poet.
She was predeceased by her loving husband John Blakemore Houck in May of 1988, and two brothers, Robert Vernon Shiver and Paul Shiver. Joy is survived by her two caring children; Robert Ross ( Houck and his wife Laurel of Dacula, Georgia, Laurie Jo Houck-McCarthy of Delray Beach, Florida, two precious grandchildren; Ashley McCarthy Ancheta and Jonathon Blakemore Houck, four darling great-grandchildren; Peyton Bailey Ancheta, John “Jack” Alexander Ancheta, Gianna Eleanor Houck, Ariah June Houck, and many extended family members and friends.
Private family services were on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand, Florida where she was laid to rest next to her husband John.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to TideWell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238 in Joy’s memory.
