Joseph (Bob) Leger, 77, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Fitchburg, MA, loving husband, father and Grampy, entered the Lord’s presence suddenly on June 7, 2021. He was born on November 13, 1943 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to the late Pierre D and Bertha (Cormier) Leger and attended St Bernard’s High School. He married the love of his life, and girl next door, Elaine Goguen, on April 29, 1967 in Fitchburg, MA and they were married for 54 years before Bob passed away.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Pierre D Leger; brothers Eugene Leger and  Thomas Leger of Fitchburg, MA; brother Pierre L Leger of Port St Lucie, FL; and sister Marguerite Leger of Fitchburg, MA. Bob is survived by his wife Elaine Leger of Bradenton, FL; his son, Christopher J Leger and his wife Teresa of Leominster, MA; two grandsons: Brian and Andrew Leger of Leominster, MA; sister Annette Scott and husband Norman of Fitchburg, MA; sisters-in-law Patricia Guertin and husband Ronald of Gardner, MA; Donna Babineau and husband David of Westminster, MA; Denise Goguen of Fitchburg, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Bob worked at Tom’s Food World in Fitchburg from high school days, continuing with Victory Markets for 18 years, as Grocery and Store Manager. He then worked as Supervisor/District Manager for Optel Corp, supervising operation of 6 retail stores. Following that, he began his second career at Ft Devens, MA working his way up to Supervisory Supply Specialist until 1997 when he retired with 21 years of service. After retirement, Bob and Elaine later moved to Bradenton, FL in 2003. Bob was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having proudly served at Hanscom AFB and Vietnam. Bob was a member of Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles Church in Bradenton, FL and member of the Knights of Columbus Council #15231 and for several years, volunteered at the St Joseph Food Pantry. Bob will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a lover of use of puns and was known for his “Uncle Bobby jokes”. He was a long-time stamp collector and avid reader but his greatest love was his time at the camp in Maine with family in the summer, fishing, and playing cribbage with his grandson.


There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St, Leominster, MA, on June 28, 2021 at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA.


In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles Church, 2850 75 th St W, Bradenton, FL. (941)-795-1228
