In Loving Memory of Joseph William Portwood

Joseph William Portwood, a Florida native, passed away on September 27, 2024, in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was born in Tampa to James and Sally Portwood, Joseph was the eldest of his siblings.

Joe was a humble man, always enjoying the simple things in life. Joe never turned down a good sci-fi action movie and had a love for the need for speed which was evident in his younger years for racing and fast sports cars. A love that he passed down to his oldest son Chris, who was his pride and joy. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his two children, Chris and Caitlin, and his four adored grandchildren. He was immensely proud of his family and would often share stories about their accomplishments and milestones.

Joe’s journey was not always easy. He faced life’s challenges with courage and sought solace in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found strength and support. His experience, strength, and hope in the fellowship served as an inspiration to those that knew him, especially his daughter, proving that even in the face of adversity, hope and love could always be found.

Joseph is survived by his loving family: his brother Rick Portwood of Pinellas Park, Florida; his son, Christopher Portwood of Seminole, Florida; his daughter, Caitlin Paslick of Lumberton, Texas; and his four cherished grandchildren: Tyler Portwood, Ryleigh Renick, Evan Portwood, and Remi Paslick.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Sally Portwood, and his sister, Stacy Ritchell.

Joseph will be laid to rest at Bay Pines National Cemetery with military honors on November 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
