John Gilligan

John “Jack” Gilligan, of Holmes Beach, born January 13, 1938, died February 6, 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn (nee Powers); children Patricia (Sean) Lyons, John Patrick (Eileen) and Edward (Randall); grandchildren Connor, Stephanie and John Patrick; sister Catherine Godkin and brother Raymond; loving in-laws John Powers (Vera), Maureen (Tom) Brady, Anne (Tommy) Hartnett and Barbara Lynch; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Brooklyn, he attended parochial grammar schools, St. Francis High School, and received a Bachelor’s degree from The New York Institute of Technology.  Jack was a 26-year veteran of the NYPD, retiring at the rank of Sergeant.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was also a New York State Trooper prior to joining the NYPD.

Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Saturday, February 18th on Anna Maria Island, FL where Jack was a resident for the past 20 years.
