Helen Inez Armstrong, 99, of Bradenton FL, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2021, one month shy of her 100th birthday. She was a sweet, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Helen was known to all as a kind and gentle soul. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
Helen was born in Cullman, Alabama to parents, Chelcy and Carl Newton Martin, on November 5, 1921. She is survived by her sister, Doris Wallace, her daughters, Sandra Spence of Bradenton, FL, Judy Weston of Bradenton, FL, Beverly Swanson of Warren, Michigan, many nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren: Jeff, Jodi, Erin, Mark, Christopher, Amy, and Laura, eight great grandchildren: Chelsea, Kincaid, Liam, Ian, Joslyn, Weston, Violet, and Thomas, and three great-great grandchildren: Oliver, Freya, and Marley, with one more expected in January.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Leon P. Armstrong, her parents, and her sister, Margaret Baker.
Helen was married to the late Leon P. Armstrong on June 6, 1938. Together they raised their three daughters in Cullman, Alabama and Detroit, Michigan. She was predeceased by her loving husband in 1982.
Helen worked with the Cullman Regional Auxiliary at the Cullman Medical Center from 1982-2013. She was treasurer of the auxiliary from 1985-2013, and a member of the Northwood gardening club. Helen loved playing cards and games of any kind. She played cards on a regular basis with the residents of the Sacred Heart Convent. She was a member of the Seventh Street Baptist Church and attended church and bible studies every week.
A private celebration of life will be held in Bradenton, FL with her immediate family. The burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama. Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
