Heidi Lagro

February 18, 1940 — July 6, 2016

Heidi Lagro passed away in her home on Longboat Key, Florida, on July 6, at 2:30 a.m. surrounded by her family after a two-and-a-half year battle with breast cancer. She was 76 years young.

Heidi was born in the small town of Rodenbach, Germany, on Feb. 18, 1940. She was the youngest of four children and her family owned the only textile shop in their small town. As a young adult she worked as a secretary on the Ramstein Airbase where she met and married Gregg Miller. They moved back to the states and started a family with the birth of their two daughters, Britta (1969) and Kristina (1972). They built a beautiful home on Medicine Lake, Minnesota, but divorced soon after and Heidi began a new chapter with her Europa Designs business and with employment as a translator at Northwest/Delta Airlines. She was quickly promoted to a World Club representative and set several records in membership sales. Working here enabled her to visit her homeland as well as enjoy being avid world traveler, visiting some of the globe’s most beautiful places. During her 23 years with the airlines she helped many people in the Mpls. World Club where she befriended thousands of clients during her time with the company.

In 1990 she married the love of her life, Kent Lagro, at her lakeside home in Minnesota. In 1995 they bought their first condo in Florida. They retired and permanently moved to Longboat Key, in 2003 where she immediately immersed herself in the hearts of many and opened yet another chapter with a multitude of friends and culture. Here she hosted annual Christkindle toy drives, was heavily involved in community activities, including, food drives, Tea to Tequila, book club and the LBK mahjong club. Though her heart was always filled with love for her native Germany she proudly adopted the United States as her new beloved homeland in 2006 and was extremely proud to become a citizen and voted in her first election.

Heidi was the life of any party and had countless close friends whom she considered family. No matter where she went, someone always recognized her, shared a hug, and was excited to see her. Kent always said, “She could leave the house in the morning and return in the evening with five new friends.” She was one of the most forgiving and generous people. “Always surround yourself with good people,” she would say.

Heidi is survived by her two daughters, Britta (Minkoff) and husband Matt and Kristina (Rupp) and her husband Scott, her five “hetzakinds” (grandchildren); Tristan, Teo and Tate Minkoff, and Alia and Elliott Rupp, her loving husband, Kent Lagro and his children, Laurie Johnson and Brad Lagro.

If someone ever needed a smile, she had one to give, and they were contagious; she is now an angel in heaven.

Services will be held at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Monday July 11 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow.
