Gladys South Risk, 99, of Bradenton, passed away on January 22, 2015 at her home in Westminster Towers.
She was born in Toledo Ohio, the daughter of Henry Randolph and Mary Boniface South, formally of South Toms River NJ.
Gladys was the wife of the late James Campbell. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She attended the Toms River NJ school systems and earned herself an art scholarship. Gladys worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Broward in Toms River, till she married.
Gladys had a love for music and a beautiful singing voice; she enjoyed singing throughout her lifetime. She had many talents of which were put to use through singing solos in the Pine Beach Chapel in NJ; leading Scottish reel dances at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark NJ, with her husband James. Additionally, she did artistic paintings and enjoyed sewing costumes for the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company for their benefit shows through the Ladies Auxiliary. Gladys was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary since 1949.
Surviving her is her daughter, Gladys Risk, niece, Mary Martha Sutton, nephews; John Risk and Robert Risk, three grandchildren; George Platt of Venice FL, April Nickell and James Platt of Bradenton FL, six great grandchildren; Jonathan Platt of Sarasota FL, Jessica and Mason Nickell, James and Aurorabella Platt and Dillan Richardson all of Bradenton Fl.
Memorial donations may be made in Gladys’ honor to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota FL to the attention of the Philanthropy Department.
