George Lloyd Bruner, 81, of Akron, went home to be with our Lord on January 15, 2023.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol, his parents, Edward and Evangeline (Pohlman) Bruner, and siblings; Willard, Henry, and Rose. George is survived by his three daughters; Georgia (Don Brooker), Charlene (Craig Polasky), and Carol (Terry Hunt Jr.). He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn, and grandchildren; Christopher, Cynthia, Ashley, Chase, and Chloe, along with several nieces and nephews.
George was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959 followed by the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and served in the Vietnam War. A man who lived life to its fullest, from obtaining a black belt in martial arts to becoming an avid connoisseur of fine wines. A proud graduate of the University of Phoenix with a Master’s in Project Management, George worked as a Financial Planner after his retirement from Honeywell. For the past three years George held the title of President for the Ridgewood Meadows Condo Association in Ellenton, FL. Active in a number of non-profit organizations in Akron and the surrounding communities, George served in Toastmasters of Akron, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida, was on the Board of Directors for The Summit FM, and volunteered with SCORE and Victim Assistance Program, Summit County. George truly embodied his beliefs in a strong work ethic and living by the golden rule of “treating everyone the way we would want to be treated” each and every day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2:00-4:00 PM at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St in Akron, where a service will be held at 4PM. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
