Frank Lamar Askew

Askew, Frank (Lamar), age 85, lifelong resident of Bradenton, Fl passed away May 18, 2021.

Lamar was born August 6, 1935, in Oneco, FL. He was a graduate of Manatee High School.

He proudly served his country with 2 years in the Army National Guard, 2 years Army Reserve and 4 years in the Air Force.  After serving his country, he turned his career toward construction where he was owner/operator of several businesses, including Lamar’s Mobile Home Service, Askew Builders, and Askew-Root.

In Lamar’s younger life he enjoyed camping with his family, boating and fishing, teaching his children to fish and ski. Every weekend you could find Lamar boating and skiing on the Causeway with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and was blessed to be able to travel twice to Europe and extensively within the United States.

He was a proud member of the DeSoto crew for many years, serving as Captain, Lieutenant, Sargent and twice the coveted award as goat (Crusader Goat) Lamar and Bunny enjoyed the parades, community service and all other official appearances, as well as the camaraderie that went along with being a DeSoto crew member.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to anyone he met. Lamar leaves behind his wife of almost 61 years, Bunny L. Pevy Askew, two sons; Tony Askew and his wife, Kathy; Darren Askew and his wife, Shelly; daughter Teri Askew Thompson and her husband, Bruce and 8 grandchildren. Additionally, one sister Pat (Stu) Fleetwood and a multitude of nieces and nephews which he adored.

Lamar is predeceased by his parents Frank and Lorree Askew, one sister Shirley Hirstein and a brother Harold Wilson.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Blake Memorial ICU staff and Tidewell Hospice of Bradenton.

A Gathering of friends and family will be Sat, May 29th from 6:00-8:00pm at Shannon Funeral Homes Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave W.

Frank will be laid to rest with honors at Sarasota National Cemetery on Tues, June 1st at 2:30 pm.
