Ella M. Robertson

Ella Marie Robertson was born July 19, 1921, the youngest child of Robert Harp and Lina Vestal.

She grew up in Mount Summit, Indiana, and with her older brothers, Carl Harp and Arlie Harp, graduated from Mount Summit High School.

She later moved with her parents to New Castle, Indiana, where she attended Indiana Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper at the steel mill in New Castle, and later at a title company and a Cadillac auto dealership in Indianapolis.

Ella Marie married Charles W. Robertson of Indianapolis and together they enjoyed a 64 year partnership before his death in 2005. They had one son, Stephen C. Robertson.

A dedicated homemaker, Ella Marie cared for Stephen and supported Charles in his work and church and community involvement. She served as bookkeeper for their family investments, including management of two motels.

During the first 35 years of their marriage, Charles and Ella Marie built and moved into new home every 5 years. They lived in 8 different homes in the Indianapolis area, before moving to Florida in the late 1980s, first residing on Longboat Key, and then building their last home in the Perida Golf and Country Club neighborhood.

They enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with friends. In 2003 they moved into Freedom Village in Bradenton, Florida, where Ella Marie would live until her death on March 18, 2018.

Ella Marie is survived by her son, Stephen Robertson, and his wife, Susan Peacock, whom Ella Marie adored. She is also survived by a nephew, John Harp, and a niece-in-law, Tonna Harp. The family is grateful for the many caregivers who helped Ella Marie during her last few years, including Irma Gipp, those from First in Care, and the staff at The Inn and the Healthcare Center at Freedom Village.

Final internment will be at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
