Elaine Gloria (Faist) Meyers; beloved wife, mother, and grandmother; passed away November 17, 2019 at age 83. The daughter of the late Ira and Lila (Wurtz) Faist, Elaine was born May 28, 1936 in Bad Axe, Michigan. She is survived by her husband, Richard D. Meyers, who she married on January 26, 1957 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Saginaw, MI. Elaine graduated from Elkton High School and Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Saginaw General Hospital in the Emergency Room and Delivery/Post Partem Units. She was a full-time homemaker for many years, raising her children. She returned to work as an RN for Davenport, Cavendish, Averill MD’s, and Michael Ledtke, MD. She retired in 1992.
Surviving besides her husband Richard are their children: Richard D. Meyers, Jr., Lisa Meyers Smith; grandchildren: Stephanie (Bryan) Wang, Kristen Smith, Victoria Meyers, Rebekah Meyers; brother Glenn (Arlene) Faist, sister in law Lorraine Faist; and several nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her brother Dale Faist.
Our matriarch Elaine was a loving and devoted wife and mother; a daughter; a compassionate, kind, and tender woman; a good friend; and a very caring nurse. She loved the Lord God and lived out her faith. She taught us that we will see her beautiful, sweet face again.
In high school Elaine was active in the Marching and Concert Bands, where she won many awards. As a mother she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a room mother and teachers aid, an avid sewer, knitter, scrapbooker, and an excellent cook. Throughout her life Elaine was active in her community, earned many trophies in mixed doubles bowling, and was involved in card clubs. She gave much time in volunteer work. As a Red Cross volunteer she organized many blood drives, and served as chairman of the Health & Wellness Committee for 12 years in Florida. Elaine enjoyed singing in church choirs at Elkton Methodist Church, Bradenton Emmanuel United Methodist, Alden Methodist Church, and Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene for many years. Elaine bowled, golfed, water and snow skied, boated, tobogganed, and (reluctantly) swam. Elaine and Richard traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and thoroughly enjoyed retirement together in Florida. She has lived in Elkton, MI; Saginaw, MI; Thayer Lake, MI; and Bradenton, FL. Elaine loved life, loved to laugh and play games, and was usually the winner. She taught us grace, generosity, and humility. Rest in peace our dear wife, mother, and grandmother. We will forever love, adore, and miss you. We know you are hearing those precious words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
Viewing will be held at First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with Funeral Service commencing at 11:00am.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
