Dr. Richard Harvey Blankshain

Dr. Richard Harvey Blankshain, 86, of Parrish, Florida, passed away on March 21, 2016.  He was born November 8, 1929, in Chicago, the only child of Grace Elizabeth (Lundberg) Blankshain and Harvey William Blankshain.  He graduated from Proviso Township High School in Maywood, Illinois (1947), Elmhurst College (1951) and the University of Illinois College of Medicine (1955).  While in medical school he married Ruth Anna Boyer on July 28, 1952.

Dick served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1961, being honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.  After the Navy Dick established a practice in obstetrics and gynecology at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, where he practiced continuously for 36 years.  At West Suburban he served as both Chairman of the Medical Staff and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He was active in both the Chicago and Illinois State Medical Societies.  Dick lived in Oak Park and River Forest, Illinois from 1961 until moving full-time to Parrish in 2010.

Dick loved to fish, hunt, boat, play golf at Oak Park Country Club, and spend time at his house at Lake Geneva,  Wisconsin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth; three sons Jeffrey (Diane), Michael (Kathleen Deighan) and Alan, (Linda); and seven beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly, Jessica, Kate, Andrew, Timothy, and Matthew.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Ann, who passed away in 1959.

The family will greet friends at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3011 19th Avenue West, Bradenton, at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 with a Memorial Service at 1:30.  There will be a reception at the church after the service.

Another memorial service and internment will take place near his long-time home of Oak Park, Illinois, at a date to be determined.
