Dorothy Elizabeth 'Betty' Gilmore

April 12, 1929 — November 9, 2021

Dorothy Elizabeth 'Betty' Latimer Gilmore, 92, went home to Jesus on November 9, 2021.

She was born on April 12, 1929 in Miami, Florida to parents Merle and Dorothy Latimer. She was introduced to the piano by her  father at an early age and this led to her lifelong love of music.

She felt called to Christian service while attending Florida State University. She graduated with a degree in English Literature in 1950. Two years later she was awarded her Master's degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education.

Betty met and fell in love with pastor Ernest Gilmore Jr., and they were married in 1957. They were called to the mission field in Brazil where they worked for two years. They returned to the United States where they served two churches in Georgia before coming to Bradenton First Presbyterian Church in 1974.

Betty's greatest joy was serving as the Music Director, working as a team with her husband, to prepare for each worship service. In addition to her music activities, Betty served in many other capacities at the church over the years, including teaching Sunday School and Youth Club.

Betty is survived by her sister Diane Eldredge, her four children,  Diane Gilmore (Amanda), Deborah Braselton, Ernest Gilmore III (Angie), and Daniel Gilmore (Mara), along with twelve  grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Ernest Gilmore Jr., and her granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Gilmore.

Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2021 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Shannon Funeral Homes, Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W. Bradenton, FL 34205.

A Celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1402 Manatee Avenue W., Bradenton, FL 34205
