Dolores F. Busard; 'Laurie' died in Blake Hospital, Bradenton, FL on January 19, 2015 after prolonged illness.
She was born on July 25, 1923 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She went to Muskegon Junior College, Graduated Michigan State University 1945. After teaching one year, Laurie married Thomas R. Busard of Muskegon, Michigan in November of 1946. They lived in Chicago, IL where she taught elementary school, until her new husband got a degree from Northwestern University in Business. They moved to Muskegon, Michigan and later to Dowagiac, Michigan until 1955. Her husband began University of Michigan Medical School so the family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and she resumed teaching elementary school until her husband completed and received his medical degree. Then they moved to Muskegon, Michigan, lived in Norton Shores while he practiced as a medical doctor there for 17 years.
In 1973 the family moved to Bradenton, Florida, where her husband continued to practice medicine until retirement in 1988, continuing their lives in Bradenton until her death in January 2015. While in Muskegon Laurie worked to earn her Masters Degree through the University of Michigan and developed 'Great Books' courses for young school children. After moving to Florida she became President of the Manatee County Medical Auxiliary and later held State officer positions in the Florida Medical Association Auxiliary.
She was an active member and served as Board Members and President of the local (national) PEO Sorority, also served as a State Representative for PEO. Her PEO membership activities beginning in 1948 in Muskegon, Michigan and continued throughout her life in Florida until her death. She was also an early participant in the Guardian Ad Litem legal program in Florida.
Laurie birthed five children, her first child, a baby girl died within days of her birth, a son predeceased her Thomas A. Busard, who died at age 25 in Bradenton, in 1975 in a tragic accident. She had three daughters, Gillian, who lives in Longboat Key, Patti, who lives in Sarasota, and Bobbi (Roberta) who lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is survived by her remaining daughters, husband, granddaughters Whitney Britton and Katie Thompson and nephews Andrew and Kurt, both residing in Michigan.
