Dennis F. Martin

Dennis Martin, 72, of Bradenton, died on May 28, 2017.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Leslie, children, Jeff and Sara, and grandchildren, Toby and Baek.

Dennis would tell you the best decision he ever made was proposing to Leslie on December 31, 1965. While he had a gruff exterior, his loving family and countless friends will tell you no one had a bigger heart. He claimed to hate hugs, but never turned one down.

He proudly served in the Marines, but was even more proud to see his son serve in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

Dennis surprised opponents with his lightning-quick moves on the tennis court, but everyone would tell you the best part about playing tennis with Dennis was the post-match banter over pitchers of beer.

One of his favorite pastimes was taking truly terrible bets from his grandson, which he made good on by mailing M&Ms to Minneapolis.

Dennis will be missed terribly.

A Celebration of Dennis’s life will be held the last week in June, where, according to his wishes, two songs will be played: “What a Wonderful World,” and “300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy.'

Memorials donations may be sent to Bishop Animal Shelter, in honor of his rescue dog, Midas.
