Dr. Delores Bissell Martin, of Bradenton, FL passed away on October 27, 2022 at the age 91.
She was born in Washington, D.C to John A and Lillian E Francis.
Delores is a survivor of infantile paralysis “polio’ and was a March of Dimes poster child in the early 1940s. In 1941, she drew the favor of Eleanor Roosevelt, who was an advocate for National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, and they were photographed in numerous newspaper articles, Life Magazine and a radio interview with Mrs. Roosevelt.
Delores was the co-founder of Ephesians Life Ministries in Rockville, MD. She earned her Doctorate in Biblical Counseling and dedicated a majority of her adult life to teaching bible studies, providing guidance on life coping skills and counseling others with drug addiction.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Martin, her daughter and son-in-law Terry and Ron Northcutt, 2 grandchildren Scott Bissell and Joanna Bissell-Havran, her sister Patricia.
Francis and numerous extended family and close friends.
She was predeceased by her first husband of 53 years Vincent Bissell, her son David Bissell, brothers John, Donn, Robert and Richard Francis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:30 in the chapel at Brookdale Palma Sola with Pastor Marshall Jeffers. In place of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Learn to Fish Recovery at 526 4 th Avenue E, Bradenton, FL 34208 on her behalf.
Delores Martin will be laid to rest at the VA Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
