David Paul Kokko, Sr., 72 of Bradenton, passed away July 16, 2016 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.
David was born on January 26, 1944 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Elmer Paul and Eugenia Mae (Merritt) Kokko. After his graduation from high school, David served his country faithfully by serving with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1982 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Army he was awarded numerous decorations including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Services Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Leaf Cluster to name a few.
He has been a resident of Bradenton for the last 20 years coming from California. Locally he was a member of The Source Church in Bradenton, and worked for over 15 years as warehouse manager for Comesee ComeSav in Bradenton.
David was predeceased by his wife Judy in March of 2011, and is survived by his one son; David Paul Kokko, Jr. of Bradenton, two daughters; Bobby Jean Kokko and Christina Kay Montanez both of Bradenton, three brothers; Alan and his wife Sue Kokko of Kansas, Larry and his wife Rose Kokko of Tampa, Harry and his wife Kim Kokko of Great Falls, Montana, fifty-eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 P.M. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton, with a Celebration of David’s life to follow at 7:00 P.M. Full military honors to be provided by the Funeral Honor Guard of Fort Stewart Army Base.
Burial will take place next week at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida where he will be late to rest along with his late wife.
