Constance L Wampler

Constance Louise “Connie” Wampler, 78, a longtime resident of Martinsville, was taken from this earthly life on Saturday, May 9, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida, where she lived for a short, but joyful six months with her youngest son. Connie died at Blake Hospital, just days after she was involved in a heartbreaking automobile accident.

Her story began Thursday, March 5, 1942 in Indianapolis. she is one of three children born to William Clarence and Carmen Irene (Mock) Powell.
Connie spent her childhood in Brooklyn, Indiana, and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1960. She was a exceptional student, a member of the National Honor Society, a loyal friend, a caring sister and hard-working daughter. Her adult life followed suit: Always investing energy in those she loved, she spoke neither unkind word nor complaint. Always smiling and working tirelessly, she tended in her loved ones a legacy of quiet strength, for which they are all eternally grateful.

Raising her boys, Connie worked relentlessly as both a single mom and a dedicated employee. Before her retirement in 2007, she served for 11 years as a Driver Services Coordinator for Wheaton Worldwide Moving in Indianapolis. Prior to Wheaton, you may remember her running the Cope store or working at Black Lumber Company in Martinsville, where she was well-loved and respected.

Above all, Connie was a doting grandma and a super proud mother to her three boys. She was an avid gardener, a homemaker, and, lest we forget, a die-hard Colts fan! In summer you’d find her outside sawing wood, refinishing furniture, or tending to her plants (yes, even in the rain!), and in winter baking her famous banana bread and working crosswords in record time.

Her unexpected death has left a void in the hearts of her loving family: her two sons, Douglas (wife, Carolyn) Wampler of Carmel, IN and Bradley (wife, Toni) Wampler of Palmetto, FL; her brother, Robert A. (wife, Patricia) Powell of Texas; sister, Susan J. Brummett of Colorado; and her eight beloved grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Cynthia Dawn Wampler and her oldest son, Jeffrey Dean Wampler in 1992.
