Chester “Chet” Lakes, 88, of Palmetto, passed away Oct. 27, 2022 after a brief illness. He is the son of the late Homer and Jessie Lyttle Lakes of Hamilton, Ohio.
Chet was a plumber for 70 years, working for many years with Armstrong Bros. Plumbing. He was a hard-working, gentle man who loved his family and grandkids, often following their lives on Facebook.
When their kids were younger, the family would pack sandwiches and spend hours fishing on Palma Sola Causeway or at the bayside of Coquina Beach.
Chet cooked Sunday morning breakfast of bacon, eggs and biscuits and sometimes pancakes every Sunday morning until he became ill. He loved sitting in his recliner and reading Louis L’Amour westerns, and he enjoyed being outside or piddling in his shed. He never had an enemy and was loved by all who knew him.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, JoAnn; son Brian Lakes of Mississippi; daughters Sherryl Lakes Miller of Myakka City and Louanna Lakes Willis of Palmetto; a sister, Anne Turner of Middletown, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; and his dog LuLu.
There will be no public service.
