Charles Edward Smith, Jr., 91, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away October 8, 2016 at the Westminster Towers of Bradenton Healthcare Center.
Charles was born on March 10, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Charles Edward Sr., and Catherine (Plattner) Smith. He served his country faithfully during World War II by serving with the United States Navy, and achieved the rank of Aviation Radioman 2nd Class.
Following his military service he worked as an electronics specialist in the Electronics industry for many years. Charles moved to Florida in 2005 coming from Providence, Rhode Island. He was of the catholic faith.
Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Viola Maria in February of 2016 and is survived by his two loving children; Charles E. Smith III and his wife Mary Ellen of Parkland, Florida, Catherine Joyce and her husband Jean Etienne Dimanche of Bradenton, five precious grandchildren, two adorable great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
A joint celebration of Charles and Viola’s lives will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton. Final military honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard of the United States Navy.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either Westminster Towers, 1533 4th Avenue W., Bradenton, Fl. 34205 or TideWell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 in Charles and Viola’s memory.
