Charles Adam Decker, 72 of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Young Harris, GA died unexpectedly on May 1, 2023.
Charlie was multi-talented; an artist graduating from Ringling College, Sarasota, FL; an architect and structural engineer with degrees from the University of Kentucky, designing over 400 commercial buildings, many of them pro bono, an accomplished pilot who loved flying his Luscombe and restoring old warbirds. For years he sailed with Sarasota Sailing Squadron, then later could be seen sculling in the bay. He played chess, was an avid reader and could fix and build just about anything. He enjoyed traveling and felt fortunate to take many cruises, hike the Amazon, visit China, Thailand, Greece, Turkey and many other countries. Although creative and clever, he was humble, quiet and gentle with a quirky sense of humor. Charlie was an active volunteer with the Towns County Food Pantry and later with Young Eagles in Sarasota teaching teenagers how to build airplanes.
He loved his garden and sharing the bounty with others. Charlie loved Miss Betty’s Biscuits, Christmas celebrations, especially with trivia Bill. He loved “the other Charlie”, dogwoods and lilacs in the Spring, anything Rosemary baked, dinner at Enricos, his dock friend Vic, the brothers at Arne’s, green hair on St. Patty’s Day or dressing up like an Indian for Thanksgiving. Charlie loved driving his convertible on the winding mountain roads, exotic tasty dinners at Chef Ed’s and adored cats, especially his beloved Lily.
He believed there is no destination, only the journey. And what a journey he had!
Charlie leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Jody Reynolds and many treasured friends, both old and new.
