Carolyn Winans Christian

Carolyn Jane Christian (Winans) died on May 30, 2019.

She was born on March 10, 1943, grew up in Bradenton, FL,  graduated from Manatee High School. she is the daughter of Riley and Maxine Winans.

Carolyn is survived by her brother Riley Winans, daughter Carolyn Jane Nye and her husband Philip Nye, son William Eugene Christian and daughter Pattie White. Also survived by grandson Nathan Nye, granddaughter Katie Nye, granddaughter Chrissy Perez and two great- grandchildren.

Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. However, she had many other accomplishments, which include graduating from the University of South Florida with a teaching degree in art. While at USF, she helped in starting the first integrated sorority there.

She married William Eugene Christian, Jr, whom she met in kindergarten. They started their life teaching in Punta Gorda, FL, where she started a daycare while they were starting their family. Later, when husband Bill received the calling to become a Baptist preacher, she was happy to join him as the wife of a preacher, moving to Wake Forest, NC for seminary, then to South Hill, VA where he had his first church.

Then, in the mid 1980's, they moved back to Florida; in Riverview, FL, Bill had his second church, and Carolyn resumed her art teaching career. Then in Ellenton, FL, Carolyn continued to teach art, also did some substitute teaching, and worked for GE sales until she retired.

After retiring, and the passing of her husband, she moved to Parrish, FL, where she became a member of Parrish First Baptist Church. In her later years, after her first fight with cancer, she decided to knit hats for cancer patience's, and leaving them at multiple cancer facilities. She continued to have a generous spirit and an outgoing, positive attitude toward life until the end.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 10: 00 a.m with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Parrish.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Cancer Society in Carolyn's name.
