On Friday, March 25, 2022, Beatrice Giles Elliott (Bea), loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 101. Bea was born in Deadwood, South Dakota on May 26, 1920 to Haeckel Humboldt Giles and Ethel Giles. Bea spent most of her years through high school in Casper, Wyoming. She then attended both Grinnell College in Iowa and Denver University in Denver, Colorado. In 1942, she married Jack Savage. He served in the US Navy on a minesweeper and was killed in the battle of Okinawa in 1945. Shortly after World War II, Bea joined the office of Senator Edward V. Robertson of Wyoming where she was an executive secretary in his Washington, DC office. In that position, she met Colonel Robert W. Elliott who was serving in the US Air Force at the Pentagon. They married in 1947 and had one daughter, Linda, who died when she was 25 years old of a brain aneurysm. Bea and her husband moved to Anna Maria Island in 1968 after Colonel Elliott completed his career in the US Air Force. They were active members of the Holmes Beach community, as well as significant contributors in the early life and for many subsequent years of the Key Royale Golf Club. In the 1970’s Bea worked as a manager at the Resort 66 motel on Anna Maria. In her retired life, Bea loved traveling and enjoyed a number of international trips. She loved playing cards with various groups in homes and regularly played at the Key Royale Club. Bea played cards socially until her health no longer allowed and then continued to play in her home with friends until her final days. Bea was a classy lady, intelligent, spunky and proper in all of her ways. She will be missed. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, March 30th.
