James Robert Couser (Jim)
Jim passed away peacefully at home in Bradenton, FL on August 15, 2023. He was 77. He leaves behind a son Charles “Chas” (Caryn) Couser and granddaughter Charlee Rose Couser of Bradenton, FL, a cousin Susan (Wes) Llewellyn of Moline IL, and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Manhattan Kansas to Dorothy and Wendell Couser, and moved to Mount Lebanon PA for his high school years. He graduated from DePauw University where he majored in English Literature, and was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.
After college, he moved back to Pittsburgh as a financial advisor and stockbroker. In 1975, he moved to Bradenton where he became a realtor working in both residential and commercial sales for over 40 years.
He loved to cook for family and friends and had hundreds of recipes in his collection. He was an accomplished tennis player and golfer, winning tournaments in both sports over the years. He called himself a “connoisseur of cheap wine”, finding, collecting and sharing esoteric vintages. He was a collector and purveyor of antique furniture, artwork and rugs. Music played a significant role in Jim’s life as well. He managed the Mankind Band, a group of college friends, who have continued to come together for reunion performances over the years.
A Celebration of Life is planned in late February for family and friends
